Construction

Construction, encompasses a great rang of things. From digging holes to erecting massive buildings, and everything in-between. We have been engaged in construction for over 40 years. Having being exposed to all manner of situations. We have repaired locks to turnkey constructing full recording suites. Fixed leaking pipes to building a large manufacturing facility. No trade is foreign to us. Having years of experience especially in HVACr, Electrical and Plumbing at both commercial and residential levels.

The more you are exposed to maintenance issues the better a contractor you will become. Being able to realize the future condition of the assembly, windows for instance, allows you to construct to a higher standard. As an example: Wooden windows fail from wood rot generally started from cracks in the paint. Caused by the underlying frame members expanding and contracting at their joining points. Once the crack has appeared in the protective coating (paint/polyurethane) then water enters and gets trapped, starting the rotting process. One of the main problems is the materials we use. Again with windows, we have UPVC (Vinyl) or Aluminium as excellent alternatives to wood. The decay level of these is substantially longer, so they prove to be superior materials for these purposes. However the persons responsible for the maintenance of these assemblies are often the main cause of premature degradation. It is common practice these days to wait until the coatings are peeling off or completely dissolved by the elements before giving them the required attention. This is false economy, as the cost to repair or replace is substantially more than a proper maintenance schedule.

Correctly designing and executing the build is also extremely important to systems and assembly longevity. With all our years around the industry, we have seen many horrors in both. You would expect poorer quality of materials and workmanship in the budget builds. But unfortunately this is not always the case. Some of the most atrocious quality of work we have seen in high end custom homes. Generally commercial construction is better quality, mainly because engineers and architects are involved, and the inspection process is more stringent as the general public liability is involved.

Building recording facilities especially commercial and educational ones, you have to follow the design criteria exactly. If you don't, the system will fail badly. The cost to rectify that can be substantial. So do it correctly in the first place.

KSI focus is on small "special projects". One-offs that could be considered prototypical. We like the flair of designing building new systems, assemblies and spaces. Few jobs in our world offers the level of satisfaction gained from construction.
