Recording Rooms

A freestanding booth is an excellent way to achieve isolation from the ambient noise, without a major rebuild. Check out our Isolation Page. For a fraction of the price and hassle, a booth can be configured for your specific purpose. Also, your facility's down time is kept to a minimum. This is not just acoustic foam hanging on the wall. We offer a good looking addition to any studio environment, from a commercial facility to a home composing suite. Which offers maximum isolation, with no acoustic surprises.

The starting point, is your goal. What are you trying to achieve? Next, you need to ascertain just how much space is available. Then, the budget needs to be addressed.

The CAD design pictured above, is purposed primarily as a medium sized single person, fully demountable, recording room. With a high level of isolation (see note a) achieved using a floating floor mounted structure of composite walls and ceiling panels, that are sealed air tight. The walls are ~89mm / 3.5 inch thick composite units clad on both sides with paint grade ply-board and filled with high mass insulation. Angled reversible inside acoustic panels are ~60mm / 2.4 inch thick filled with high mass insulation with one side (absorbing) covered with high quality acoustic fabric, offered in a wide range of colors, the other side (reflecting) covered with veneered wood.

The entrance door is ~50mm / 2 inch thick solid composite unit hardwood veneered both sides. Door is supplied with an ~50mm / 2 inch interior absorbing panel. Window can be custom shape and size, or none at all, and incorporates two layers of 6mm / 0.25 inch tempered glass. Door frame and door edge banding are hardwood. Door has continuous magnetic and bulb seals to its perimeter.

Floor is sealed box design with ply-board to top and bottom filled with high mass insulation. Floating on 12mm / 0.5 inch dense acoustic foam. Floor is covered in commercial low pile carpet in a choice of colors.

Ceiling structure is identical to wall structure. With the acoustic panels interlocking to the underside.

Lighting is a dimmer controlled low voltage LED edge channel which is incorporated to the center square ceiling acoustic panel's perimeter. The booth comes equipped with a single duplex receptacle on side wall available for auxiliary power requirements, and has a single ~7.5m / 25 ft power cord which runs all booths power requirements. Also a single 4 channel XLR stage box is mounted on an inside panel and is patched to the outside with same configuration. This audio patch can be custom configured for any requirements.

The booth has two fresh air options. One being a virtually noiseless air circulating fan system built into the air- wall panel, that can replace the booth air every 2 minutes. Drawing cooler air in from the outside environment at floor level and expelling the warm air from the booth's ceiling area. This can be speed controlled for comfort. The other option is a self contained air conditioner unit, which requires building exterior access for the outdoor section. The indoor section is attached to the booth's air-wall panel. The two being connected with a quick connect pipe system.

The room has an inside floor area of ~1.7sqm / 19sqft and a average ceiling height of ~2.1m / 7ft. With the addition of a ceiling corner, floor corner, a wall panel and their matching interior absorption panels, the booth can be square with a inside floor area of ~2.25sqm / 24sqft. The heaviest panel (large floor panel) weighing ~57kgs / 125lbs.
Build time is ~4 weeks, with usually one day on site. And includes delivery within 100 miles of coastal Orange County, California, USA. Current estimated price as of January 2020 is $13,000.00 as configured with normal air-wall. Specifications can be modified to suite most needs and outlined here only as a guide.

Note-a: Every effort has been made in design and manufacture to maximize isolation. However as this assembly is designed to be easily assembled and disassembled, keeping in mind panel weight and sizes, as well as the fact that there is only one door and one perimeter assembly, there is a limit to what is physically possible to achieve. It is therefore suggested that the booth be located inside an already isolated room or other normally quiet area for best results.
